On November 12, 2025, the scientific center «Smart technologies for sustainable development of the urban environment in the context of global changes» of ATI RUDN University will organize an international scientific seminar «Green roofs in russian cities». Green roofing is one of the most promising approaches to improving the quality of urban green infrastructure. In Russia, this area is currently underdeveloped; however, new examples of such projects are emerging, which may provide a foundation for the broader implementation of green roofs in the country.

The seminar will review experiences in developing green roof projects in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, and Rostov-on-Don.

The Research center «Smart technologies for sustainable development of the urban environment in the global change» Agrarian and Technological Institute RUDN University organizes an international scientific seminar « Monitoring, modeling and managing of urban soil and green infrastructure (3MUGIS)», which will be held on July 7-12.
The international scientific seminar will be devoted to the study of ecological, anthropogenic, social and other processes of urbanization and their impact on soil functions. Participants will learn about new approaches in ecomonitoring and modeling of urban ecosystems, study the biochemistry of urban soils and plantings, analyze issues of ecosystem services and urban climate, as well as get acquainted with technical innovations in the study of urban soundscape. The seminar focuses on modern approaches to studying bioaerosols and their role as components of atmospheric particles. The session will address key aspects of bioaerosol monitoring – from selecting optimal filters for sample collection to analyzing the biological composition of aerosols in relation to their optical and physical properties, based on results from the BIO-MASTER project campaigns in the Central Mediterranean region. Special attention will be given to the urban dust microbiome and the potential of green infrastructure to mitigate biological air pollution.

“Green” roofs seem to be an interesting object of research and a promising object from the point of view of urban infrastructure development. However, in Russian practice, such a greening mechanism is currently rare and poorly regulated by existing regulatory legal acts.

During the seminar, the results of a study of various aspects of the creation and functioning of green roofs in Russian cities will be considered.
